I thought this could use it's own post.
Eddie’s enthusiasm is definitely contagious. I had some time to mess around with the proportions of the Monster Robot’s head. What do you think? His body and arms are in the works.
For those interested, I’m using a parametric solid modeler called SOLIDWORKS to create the robot. The program allows me to model three dimensional solid objects as opposed to a two dimensional CAD program like AutoCAD. The program is typically used to design mechanical parts and systems.
Eddie. Please don’t send me 100 pounds of 300-pound cardboard. My wife says I have enough stuff in the house. I’m sure you understand. 😑😑😑

Looks great I love it! I will only send it when needed. Haha. Thank you for everything.
That is just what I am looking for. It’s perfect.
I was thinking wait until my wife finds out. I think I’m am going to sneak him into my storage without her finding out.👍👍👍
@drsab : I'm quite positive that Eddie just wet himself a little bit, Dr. Sab! Thank you for keeping him busy and entertained. Joe and I really, really, really appreciate it. HA!
As you make progress on this endeavor, it DEFINITELY warrants a a podcast topic; "Robot Talk with Eddie and Thom". It's got a nice ring to it don't ya think?
I don't have the passionate interest in the "Mysterious Missing Robot Plans" that Eddie covets so badly ... but I do generally love robots. It's possibly due in part to our generation, the beginnings of space travel and all of the sci-fi programs, imagery and toys we grew up with. Getting my Lost in Space Robot for Christmas stands out in my memory ... and I have home movies of that somewhere that I'm trying to find.
Thanks again for joining, playin and posting AND keeping Eddie occupied. This project will be great fun for all of us. -- TRM
To that said I changed clothing already HA!
Eddie: In a prior post, you said you tracked down the son of the owner of the Melton Company that was advertising the Monster Robot Plans in comic books. I have so many questions here. How did your search start? How did you find Melton’s son? Where did you find Melton’s son? What did Melton’s son say once you found him and told him what you were looking for? I’m really interested in your Detective Work and knowing the story would add to this post. I’m also pretty sure TRM wants to know the whole story.
The Robot: I’m modeling the Robot as a solid so ultimately he can be printed in plastic. His current scale is approximately one-fourth of the original 7 feet. 3D printers have a defined print area that limits the size of finished parts. Modeling with the aim to fabricate in cardboard would require a different design intent. I hope a plastic version will temporarily satisfy Eddie’s insatiable appetite for the Monster Robot. What do you think TRM?
@drsab : I'm just so damn happy you came along to talk Monster Robert Plans with Eddie I can hardly stand it. THANK YOU, DR. SAB!!!
Yes and NO! I don't need to know the whole story about the search for the Missing Monster Robot Plans. I've heard it. Oh boy oh boy have I ever heard it. And many multiple times. Joe has too. But I agree and do wish that Eddie would write it all out so it's documented. Maybe this thread of yours will encourage him to do so. @Houseoftheunusual.com EDDIE: Add this to your list of things to do.
I love the idea of a smaller 3D version to kick things off. It's more manageable, will get "Impatient Eddie" results faster, and it will still provide the basic structure for any possible future uses. Although ... I do have to admit ... poor Eddie has been pining for this thing for so long I know his patience has long since expired on this search. And I can't blame him on this one.
This endeavor gets nothing but TOTAL THUMBS UP from me. THANK YOU!
PS: In case you haven't noticed, I love making fun of Eddie. He's a great guy and a good friend. But again, just don't tell him I said so. -- TRM
@TRM Thanks TRM. I thought it was really important to set some expectations before 300 pounds of 100-pound cardboard, or 100 pounds of 300-pound cardboard shows up on my front porch. Only kidding Eddie!
I had some time to work on the Monster Robot Model over the weekend. I’ve added the body and arms, adjusting his scale as I model. One of the ads that Eddie sent me has slots in the front of the body while other ads don’t. I believe at least one slot in the full-size version is for the occupant (Eddie in this case) to see out.
Eddie, I would still like to hear the story, the whole story and nothing but the story.
I love it!!!! Just the way you are doing it PERFECT PERFECT!!!
I will tell the story.
I will begin tonight at work
Once upon time ...
Just got home from work... I will start
Here’s the latest update on the Monster Robot Model. I’ve added the legs and adjusted the overall proportions again. If the original plans called for using cardboard for the construction, I don’t believe the legs would be two pieces. The operator would have to the straddle the two legs boxes and this could be very uncomfortable. I’ve created a notch to give the illusion of two legs. What do you guys think?
@drsab: And Eddie said “Let there be legs!” And there were legs. Dr. Sab made it so. And now we’re just two feet away from a 7 Foot Monster Robot walking among us. EEEK!!!
Nice work. Agree. Based on the sketch in the ad, it’s hard to tell exactly what is going on with the legs. Individual legs seem impractical. Honestly, the whole thing seems fairly impractical to me.
I wonder if anyone actually tried to build this monstrosity as a kid? Somehow, I doubt it. Or if they tried, they didn’t get very far. And if anyone did complete it, I’m sure their mom didn’t allow them to keep it around for very long.
PS: I’ve been pestering Eddie to write down and post the story of his search for the elusive “7 Foot Monster Robot Plans.” He keeps telling me he’s going to do it and then doesn’t deliver. I’ve found blackmail works fairly well with Eddie. It’s always nice to have something to hold over his head.
Love all of this, Dr. Sab! -- TRM
@TRM I'm going to give you a hand for that comment.
@drsab HA! Love the comment and love the "hands". Nice work.
He looks pretty good in a Central New Jersey Industrial Environment.
WOW the story will be told!!! Dr. This is just what the Doctor ordered...STRAIGHT from the Laboratory sheer excellence...Sheer excellence... PERFECT! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eddie: I watched your Wednesday evening Podcast on YouTube where you told the story about your ongoing hunt for the Melton Monster Robot Plans. Wow! Now I understand how long it would take to document the search. You missed your calling as a Private Investigator.
So I can add my personal experience to the story from the other side. About 3 or 4 years ago, I tried to email the House Of The Unusual because I was looking for some old 1980’s SS Adams Stretch Pack Gags. From the website it looking like they were selling the Adam’s stuff because the pictures used were from Adam’s packaging. Well I never got a response. At some point I realized that the owner of the HOTU might be the same guy in Kirk Demarais’s book and he’s selling stuff on eBay. So I contacted Eddie through the eBay message system and this is the exchange. I’m paraphrasing here.
Me: “Hi. Are you the same Eddie from the HOTU?”
Eddie: “Yes, who are you?”
Me: “I’m me. Like you, I collect mail-order comic book stuff. Are you selling 1980’s SS Adams item on your HOTU website?”
Eddie: “No, not that year. Those are really collectable. Do you have plans for the Monster Robot Plans that were advertised in comic books in the 1970’s from the Melton Company?”
Me: “I did have Robot Plans as a kid from the Abracadabra Magic Shop.”
Eddie: “I have those plans. Thank you.”
HA HA HA.....Now from the other side answering Drsab. What kind of S.S. Adams stuff are you looking for?
Thanks Eddie. I did get the stuff I was looking for since then. Thanks again.
I might just be able to help...
The Monster Robot finally has his feet. Since Eddie & Joe are really into Robots, I also include a picture of a Pneumatic Actuated Robot project that I was involved it. His hugs were Bone Crushing! Enjoy.
Yay! Feet! It looks awesome, Dr. Sab. But honestly ... the "Pneumatic Actuated Robot" you worked on is even cooler. LOVE THAT! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I love the one that you worked on looks great. The one in the picture looks phenomenal since I have been looking for him all my life.
Can’t wait for the 3D print wow a dream come true. I bet you could shoot me in the back with Tod‘s Seamonkey trident and it wouldn’t do anything to me. This is how happy I would be.
