What is a Monster Kid? Some people contend that a Monster Kid is someone who grew up in the 50's and 60's with an unbridled love for all things monster. They grew up with Halloween in their hearts everyday while watching movies, reading Famous Monsters, and completing the newest Aurora monster model kit.
But as the decades passed the term "Monster Kid" began to refer to kids in the 70's and 80's who enjoyed those creepy classics. Some kids from the 50's and 60's didn't care for this too much, while others didn't mind. It wasn't like a title was being taken from them. On the contrary, the title was being used to help a community grow. and grow it did! Those kids grew up to be adults (term used loosely) and had their own kids. This new generation foll0wed in the footsteps of their parents and became Monster Kids too! No longer could the term be regulated to one generation. I mean, how could you tell your own kin that they couldn't be a Monster Kid even though they loved the same things you did? Not possible.
The term "Monster Kid" no longer refers to a single generation, but an individual person and their state of mind. You can become a Monster Kid at the age of eight, or at the age of 58. There's not a certain age when you have to start, and there's no cut off either. it's all about the love of the genre and the strengthening of the community. If your a current Monster Kid, hold your head up high, and know that you're a part of a prestigious club. But with this status also comes the responsibility to pass along your love of the creepy classics to another generation, a family member, friend, or even a stranger.
