Yo Eddie: Yes. It was me that wanted the pocket skeleton hands with no head. Feel free to include a pair in the next "care package" you send my way. ( A not-too-subtle hint. )
So fun to see the actual products advertised in the old Johnson Smith catalogs. As was often the case, the idea and packaging far surpass the actual product. But that's part of what we loved about all this stuff. These were the true old-time marketing masters.
And Yes ... I'm still lovin' my carded pair of Aqua-Spex -- courtesy the great and kindly Eddie Guevara. It will go down as one of my all time favorite things ... as will you. ( Awwww ... )
Nice trip down memory lane, bud. Love your enthusiasm and passion for this stuff.
Too bad about Johnson Smith. I recall how excited I was whenever a new catalog arrived.
I agree, Garia: While memories of the old Johnson Smith mail-order catalogs do tend to “date a person” … man … I’m glad I lived through those times and got to experience that love-hate relationship with mail-order. It had a huge impact on me — my tastes, sense of humor and sensibility. — TRM
PS: Welcome to the group.
I never had the opportunity to grab a catalog when they came out, but it is sad that companies like these are heading out...possibly never to be seen again. It's unfortunate that mail order isn't what it used to be.
@Joe Pavlansky At least we have eBay!
Oh yeah. Very good point, Eddie. Thanks to you and House of the Unusual, good old-fashion mail-order lives on. 😎
